Paul de Thierry

Paul founded Arke Advisers in response to the challenges and opportunities created by MiFID II, especially for small and medium-sized companies.

Paul previously spent most of his career in the investment world. He joined UBS as a graduate in 1993 and was appointed to the European Equity Sales team shortly afterwards.

In 1995, Paul established the first dedicated Continental European Small and Mid Cap Companies’ Sales service in response to a growing pool of domestic and international portfolio managers specialising in this asset class. This has remained Paul’s focus ever since, taking him to Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, WestLB Panmure, Macquarie and, most recently, Kepler Cheuvreux.

An experienced salesman, rated top 3 by Extel Paul has known many institutional portfolio managers for over 25 years. His particular style involved a shortlist of high-conviction stocks where he established strong relationships with the corporates’ management teams.

In 2002 Paul took an extended sabbatical and managed a safari lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta for the next seven years. It is a testament to the strength of Paul’s client relationships that he successfully returned to the city in 2010, once again as a Small and Mid Cap Equity Salesman. It is these investor clients who have supported Paul in founding Arke Advisers.

Jeremy Gaston

Jeremy’s last 10 years as an Institutional Equity salesperson have been focused on small and medium-sized companies listed in the Nordic stock markets.

Since the inception of MiFID II, Jeremy has become increasingly aware of the challenges faced by these companies in maintaining and growing a shareholder base whilst the stockbroking community has been concentrating on reducing its cost base (i.e. less coverage of smaller capitalised and less traded companies) to meet a changed income environment.

Jeremy’s 35-year career in investment banking began as an (accountancy trained) analyst, initially with BZW followed by Svenska Handelsbanken (where Jeremy was part of the initial team starting up the London Office 1985). He moved to Enskilda Securities as an Institutional salesperson in 1994 and continued in that role at Carnegie, with the last 20 years at Svenska Handelsbanken. Many of Jeremy’s relationships with portfolio manager clients have been maintained for over 25 years. Stock picking has been a key to Jeremy’s success, while extensive travel with both clients and corporate management teams has cemented those long term relationships.

Having recognised mutual concerns over MiFID II's impact on the Research coverage of small and medium-sized companies, Jeremy and Paul began a collaboration in early 2020.
